Attorney Corey D. O'Brien Democratic Nominee for Lackawanna County Commissioner As an Eighteen-year-old Dunmore High School senior, Corey O'Brien successfully lobbied for a $600,000 federal appropriation to build a community building in his hometown of Dunmore. Today, the Borough's residents enjoy a brand-new, $4.5 million, state-of-the-art community center that mirrors Corey's early vision. After graduating from Dunmore, Corey attended Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania. While attending Penn State, he testified before a sub-committee of the Pennsylvania House Education Committee on the affordability of higher education for disadvantaged youth. Upon graduation, Corey served in the Clinton White House before being appointed to a position in the Clinton administration's Agency for International Development. Following his service in the federal government, Corey attended the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America, where he finished in the top of his class. Today, Corey is licenced to practice law in both the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia. He is also licenced to practice before the United States Supreme Court, among other federal courts. Corey worked in Washington, DC for nearly ten years as both an attorney and a political advisor before returning with his family to his home in Lackawanna County. Shortly after his return to this area, Corey launched the successful public affairs television show,"The Pulse with Corey O'Brien" on FOX. Past guests of the show include Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell, U.S. Senators Arlen Spector, Robert Casey, Jr., and Rick Santorum, as well as Congressmen Paul Kankorski, Christopher Carney, and Don Sherwood. "The Pulse with Corey O'Brien" has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters as an Outstanding TV Public Affairs Program/Series. It was also deemed the region's top public affairs television talk show by Electric City. Moreover, Corey has served as a political analyst on the region's most-watched television station, ABC-affiliate, WNEP-TV 16 and the most listened to news radion station, WILK News Radio. He has also been the host of a radio program, "Corey O'Brien Now", on WILK News Radio. In 2006 , Corey was named one of the "Top 20 Most Influential People under the age of 40 in Northeastern Pennsylvania" by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Business Journal. Corey currently resideswith his wife Michelle and their two children, Kate and Casey, in Moosic. |
